Jacob Tipper

High Performance Coach

I began coaching in 2013 and have had success across the full spectrum of athletes, from sprinters to triathletes and from cyclo-cross racers to sportive riders. The athletes I’ve worked with have benefited from both my firsthand experience within the sport and a rigorous, science-led approach to performance. By applying evidence-based methods, I help athletes maximise their potential. Whether the goal is a personal best or competing at the World Championships, the underlying principles remain the same.

Notable athletes include;

  • Ben Healy – EF Education First pro rider, Giro d’Italia stage winner

    Dan Bigham – UCI Hour Record holder, Team Pursuit World Champion

    Richard Oakes – Masters World Champion and World Record holder

Athlete

As an athlete, it all began with humble beginnings. After gradually working my way up to the National Junior Triathlon Championships, I eventually chose to focus solely on cycling. My early years were far from glamorous — back to back 70th place finishes in the Junior Tour of Wales reflected my determination, but also my initial struggles to compete at a higher level.

Over time, I progressed steadily through the category and ranking system. After finishing my education, I was able to commit more fully to training, and by practising what I preach, I developed from an average rider into a competitor at the highest level. That journey led to victories at UCI road races, Track World Cup wins, and becoming a National and UK Team Time Trial record holder over 10 miles.

Competing at the top level while being self managed added another layer of experience. With Team KGF, we pushed the boundaries of performance and race execution, helping reshape what was possible in elite track cycling through innovation and tactical insight.

Palmares;

  • UCI 2.HC Tour of Qinghai Lake - stage win

  • UCI 2.2 Tour of Morocco - stage win

  • UCI 2.2 Tour of Al Zubarah - prologue win

  • UCI 2.1 Tour of Taiwan – stage placing of 4th

  • West Midlands Divisional Road Race Champion 2015

  • East Midlands Divisional Road Race Champion 2017

  • BC Points – Over 3500!

  • National Team Pursuit Champion 2017

  • Track World Cup Semi Final Winning time of 3:57.1

  • 10 mile TT PB (18.25)

Education

As someone with a strong interest in the mechanisms of performance sport, I have focused my education on the sciences from A-levels through to postgraduate study. I graduated from the University of Central Lancashire with a 2:1 in Sport and Exercise Science, completing modules in biomechanics, physiology, ergonomics, sport performance psychology, and a dissertation on the performance benefits of elliptical chainrings.

Pursuing a career in sport science has always been my objective, so after completing my undergraduate degree, I went on to study for a Master’s in Applied Sport Science at the University of Worcester. This included modules in the limitations of human performance, methods of measurement, performance enhancement, and research methods.

The science behind the sport remains central to my approach. I regularly review academic literature to broaden my knowledge and stay up to date with the latest training methods. Through my coaching, education, and sporting background, I have built strong relationships with experts across the field, giving me access to leading talent, knowledge, and facilities.
