Jacob Tipper

High Performance Coach

I started coaching in 2013 and have had success across the full spectrum from sprinters to triathletes and from cyclo-cross racers to sportive riders. The athletes I’ve worked with have benefited greatly from my experience within the sport whilst applying a rigorous need to improve and optimising their performance through the application of scientific literature to achieve the maximum return from an athletes ability; whether it be to achieve a PB or to compete at the World Championships, the principles are the same

Notable athletes include;

  • Ben Healy – EF Education Pro Rider + Giro Stage Winner

  • Dan Bigham - UCI hour record holder & Team Pursuit World Champion

  • Richard Oakes - Multiple Masters World Champion and World Record Holder

  • Hannah Payton – GB Cyclocross rider + National Series Winner

  • Michale Gill - GB Team Pursuit Rider - Nations Cup Winner

  • Richard Bussell – National 10 mile TT Champ 2016

  • Lucy Byram - Pro 70.3 Athlete - Multiple Pro Race Winner

  • Tristan Manderfield - USA National Champion and Nations Cup Racer

  • Jakes Hales – Top 10 UK Elite Rankings 2015/16/17

  • Ollie Bridgewood – Cycling Weekly/GCN presenter (aided with various projects)

  • Nigel Jones & Scott Palmer – GB Age Group Duathletes

  • Gaby Homer - 4th Junior World Madison Champs

  • Molly Patch - BUCS National 10 & 25 Champion

  • Richard Jones - UCI Rider for Ribble Weldtite Pro Cycling

  • Jonny Brownlee - Working on preperations to Paris 2024 (Previoius tripple Olympic medalist prior to working relationship)

  • Sub7 Project Cycling Lead - Managed the cycling team for the project and worked closely with double Olympic champion Alister Brownlee in the run up, and eventually Pro Ironman athlete Joe Skipper after Alister pulled out with Injury.

Athlete

As an athlete it all began with humble beginnings. After slowly working my way up to the National Junior Triathlon Championships I eventually began to focus solely on cycling. My first few years were fairly unsuccessful, with a 70th place finish two years in succession in the Junior Tour Of Wales highlighting my desire but lack of ease to compete at a ‘higher’ level. I gradually worked my way through the category /ranking system until I finished my education at which point I was able to take training more seriously, from which point - by practising what I preach – I have progressed from an ‘average’ rider to competing in and winning Track World Cups and Multiple UCI road race wins as well as being a National / UK Team Time Record holder for 10 Mile Time Trial.

Competing at the top of the sport while also being self managed also adds to the education element, with Team KGF breaking performance and tactical barriers down at the forefront of World track cycling.

Palmares;

  • UCI 2.HC Tour of Qinghai Lake - stage win

  • UCI 2.2 Tour of Morocco - stage win

  • UCI 2.2 Tour of Al Zubarah - prologue win

  • UCI 2.1 Tour of Taiwan – stage placing of 4th

  • West Midlands Divisional Road Race Champion 2015

  • East Midlands Divisional Road Race Champion 2017

  • BC Points – Over 3500!

  • National Team Pursuit Champion 2017

  • Track World Cup Semi Final Winning time of 3:57.1

  • 10 mile TT PB (18.25)

Education

As a person whose interests stem deeply into the mechanisms of performance sport I have concentrated my education on the sciences from A levels, through to my degree graduating University of Central Lancashire with a 2:1 in Sports and Exercises Science (modules on Biomechanics, Physiology, Ergonomics, Sports Performance Psychology, with my dissertation on the performance benefits of elliptical chain-rings). A career in sports science has always been my objective, and so after finishing my degree I then continued my education with a Masters in Applied Sports Science at the University of Worcester, completing modules in the limitations of human performance, measuring human performance, enhancing human performance, and research methods. The science behind the sport is still key to me and so I spend time researching literature to broaden my knowledge and remain at the forefront of current training methods. Through my coaching, education and sporting life I have also developed many contacts in the cutting edge science of the sport which enables me greater access to a wealth of talent, knowledge and facilities.
